The Male and Female Camlock Ends Must Match

A camlock connection requires one adapter and one coupler.

Camlock Size Must Match

Threads that look similar are not automatically interchangeable.

Types C and E usually have hose shanks.

The hose must fit the shank correctly.

IBC valve → correct IBC-thread adapter → camlock adapter → camlock coupler → hose

Do not order an adapter based only on the tote's stated capacity.

Two similar-looking 275-gallon or 330-gallon totes can use different valves and outlet threads.

Identify the valve connection first.

If the tote was previously used for something other than water, its history also matters. A fitting change does not make a contaminated or unknown-history container suitable for drinking-water storage.

What About Rain Barrels and Cisterns?

Camlocks can also make removable hoses convenient on larger rain barrels and cisterns.

The tank connection itself is usually separate from the camlock.

A bulkhead fitting is a fitting that passes through a tank wall and seals around the hole.

Do Camlock Fittings Need Thread Tape?
